What is Hemoglobin?
Hemoglobin is a very important component of blood and its function is to transport oxygen from the lungs to the different parts/tissues of the body and in exchange to that it collects carbon dioxide from different tissues and transports back to the lungs.
Hemoglobin, abbreviated or scientific name Hb or Hgb, is produced in developing red blood cells in the bone marrow. It gives blood its red color. Low hemoglobin means low oxygen in blood. In order to compensate lowered oxygen in blood, the body tries to enhance the output of the heart. This result in many adverse conditions.
Normal hemoglobin vales are: (roughly not exactly)
Adult Males: 13.5-17g/dl; Females:12-15g/dl; Females in Pregnancy :11-12g/dl; Children :11-16g/dl

1.Vitamins and minerals:
Vitamins B6, B9, B12 and C will help in improvement of hemoglobin levels. They help in the optimal absorption of iron in the body, which is a major component of the hemoglobin protein. Green leafy vegetables, eggs and citrus fruits are high in vitamins and minerals. Including these fruits and vegetables in a diet ensures, you get the recommended daily balanced diet and nutrients. Vitamin C helps in the increased absorption of iron in the body and thereby increases hemoglobin levels.

4.Avoid certain foods:

Reduce or Moderate consumption of Alcohol, as that can have a detrimental effect on the blood hemoglobin levels. If your level of hemoglobin is Low, then you also have to decrease intek of dairy products till your hemoglobin levels become normal.
Though blood transfusions are not natural, especially when hemoglobin levels have fallen abysmally low, if the hemoglobin levels are life threateningly low, your doctor may recommend blood transfusions to bring the level back to normal.
